BT Plantronics 6200 UC Headset Review

Looking for something to spend some of your stimulus check on? How about a high quality bluetooth headset? For the past week, I’ve been regularly using a Plantronics bluetooth 6200 UC Headset. It’s been really comfortable, and for someone who typically has to get the smallest earpieces on headsets, I was pleasantly surprised that I was using it with no adjustments needed right out of the box.

I have paired it with my Macbook Pro running 10.14 and my Pixel 3 running Android 10. Everyone has commented positively on my audio quality and the speakers are very clear. Having the base rest around my neck with the earpieces loosely tethered allows me to move around more naturally.

Here I am testing out the PLT 6200 UC on my Pixel 3 (photo on left), with just having the earpieces in, I am able to freely move my head around without the weight of the power base. While part of me would have preferred a black unit with black wires, the white base and red wires make it more obvious that I have a headset on with people in person.

While I was testing these, I missed that someone was coming down the path and I think was speaking to me. I wasn’t able to hear them but as they got closer, they were able to realize that I wasn’t able to hear them. The earpieces are not exactly in-ear ones like the Shure SE line of headphones that work like foam earplugs, but the PLTs are able to block out sounds rather well.

PLT Earpiece Up Close

The battery seems to last a day full of calls and phone use. This morning, after a mix of scheduled phone and video calls for 3 hours, it went from 85% to 70% battery charge. I only use it for planned calls which are my extended conversations.

The controls on the base are easy to access and I don’t find myself fumbling to use them. It uses a regular micro USB port for charging; I’m relieved because my new USB lamp uses a mini USB port for charging, and I no longer have any other devices that use that older port. The newer version has a USB C port, which should charge more quickly.

While the cost is higher than the average bluetooth headset one would find in their neighborhood chain office supply store where they are mostly under $100, the quality does align with the cost. The ability to freely engage virtually without readjusting of mics, fiddling with controls, adjusting and re-adjusting placement, you’ll certainly find the value. While my lowest rating is on cost, that’s if you get it at MSRP. A quick search and I found this headset at my local big box retail store for $202.

In conclusion, this is a pretty good and I do highly recommend it.
